PIX 2016 Evening Programming


While the exhibition part of PIX ends at 6:00pm, the evening is young!  Following the close of the exhibition, there will be a 90 minute break during which we will convert the PIX exhibition space into theater-style seating.  We encourage PIX participants to avail themselves of a dining experience at one of the countless Southside eateries during this time and then to head back to PIX for what we hope will be an evening of engaging Independent Comics programming!  As with the exhibition portion of PIX, there is no charge for admission to the programming. 

Here’s what we have in store for you:

7:30 - 8:30pm: 
Bill Griffith’s Invisible Ink 
Underground comics legend and Zippy the Pinhead creator Bill Griffith details the process of creating his first graphic novel, Invisible Ink, a stunning true detective memoir about his mother's secret love affair with a now-forgotten cartoonist and novelist. 

8:30 - 9.00pm: 
Talking Trash with Derf 
Alt-Weekly newspaper cartoonist and award-winning graphic novelist Derf talks about his latest book, Trashed, an ode to the crap job of all crap jobs—garbage collector. 

9:00 - 9:30pm: 
Grace Ellis and the Lumberjanes 
Lumberjanes creator and writer Grace Ellis gives a history of the popular Eisner Award-winning series. 

9:30 - 10:15pm: 
Panel:  Charting a Path Through the Small Press Wilderness 
with Sophie Goldstein, Conor Stechschulte & Noah Van Sciver. Moderated by Bill Boichel 

10:15 -11:00:
Kaz's Underworld: From Hoboken to Hollywood 
Underground punk, Alt-Weekly hero, and Emmy-Award winner Kaz talks career highlights, including his more than 20 year run of his Underworld strip and work on the TV series Sponge BobCamp Lazlo and Phineas & Ferb.
